2 cups all purpose flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sour milk or buttermilk (To make sour milk put 1 tbsp. vinegar in measuring cup and fill to 1 cup measure with milk).
White sugar for sprinkling on top

Fruit of choice to put on top - peaches and strawberries are favourites!
Whipped cream

Directions:

Mix dry ingredients and shortening until crumbly.
Add sour milk just until moistened.
Put in greased 9 x 9 pan. Sprinkle white sugar on top.
Bake at 400º for 20 minutes or a little longer. Bake at 375º for pyrex/glass plan.

When cooled, slice in half or keep whole and top with fruit and whipped cream.
