1 box yellow cake mix
1/2 cup margarine
4 eggs
8 ounces cream cheese
1 pound powdered sugar
1teaspoon vanilla
dash of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º
Combine cake mix, margarine, 2 eggs, and salt using electric mixer.
Spread in bottom of greased 9" x 13" pan.
To make topping, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, 2 eggs, and vanilla with electric mixer.
Spread over cake mixture.
Bake at 350º for 35 minutes. Cool.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.

The Gooey Butter Cake originated in the 1930s. According to legend, a German baker added the wrong proportions of ingredients n the coffee cake batter he was making. It turned into a gooey, pudding like filling.
