1 package (4 oz.) of German Sweet Chocolate
½ cup boiling water
2 cups sugar
1 cup butter
4 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla
2½ cups cake flour
1 tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
1 cup buttermilk
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Icing
1 cup evaporated milk
1 cup sugar
3 slightly beaten egg yolks
½ cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1½ cups coconut
1 cup chopped pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add yolks,
one at a time, beating well after each. Blend in vanilla and chocolate. Stir flour with soda and salt; add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture, beating after each until smooth. Fold in beaten egg whites. Pour into three eight or nine inch cake pans lined with parchment paper on the bottom. Bake at 350º for 30-40 minutes. Cool. Frost tops only allowing some to drip down the sides.

Icing

Combine milk, sugar, egg, butter, and vanilla in a medium size saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened, about 12 minutes.
Add coconut and pecans. Cook until thick enough to spread; beat occasionally.
