1 pkg (4oz) bakers german sweet chocolate
1/2 cup boiling water
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs yolks
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup butter milk
4 egg whites stiffly beaten

Directions:
Directions:
Melt chocolate in boiling water, let cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy . Add egg yolks, one at a time beating well after each yolk, then blend in vanilla and chocolate .
Sift flour, soda, and salt; add alternately with butter milk to chocolate.mixture beating after each addition until smooth. Then fold in beaten egg whites.
Pour into three 8 or 9 inch layer pans.
Bake at 350º for 30-40 minutes. Cool and frost as desired.
