1 c. light brown sugar
1 T. shortening
1 egg
1 c. milk
1 tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. salt
2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. tart cherries with juice
½ c. sugar
1 T. butter

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350º
Mix brown sugar, shortening, and egg until combined.
Add vanilla, flour, salt, baking soda, and milk.
Pour batter into 13x9 baking dish.

Put cherries, sugar, and butter in sauce pan and bring to a boil.
Pour over batter in baking dish, reserving ½ c. juice.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, until toothpick comes out clean.

Thicken reserved juice with 1 tsp. corn starch and pour over cake when it comes out of the oven.
