1 gallon glass container
20 pickling cucumbers
3 quarts water
3 Heaping tablespoons salt
Fresh dill
1/2 head garlic

Directions:
Directions:
Boil water, add salt, and boil for 1-2 minutes more. In a glass container, put in some dill. Fill the container with pickles that have been sliced but not completely in half. Add garlic cloves and dill. Save enough dill to completely cover top (to keep pickles down under the surface. Pour boiling water into the container. Cover with cheesecloth and let sit on the counter or a protected area outside. (Sometimes air conditioning slows the process).
Start checking after 1 day (24 hours). They get sourer with time. When just right, refrigerate.

These homemade pickles were the best during the summer months. Baba would buy the cucumbers at the market in a bushel container.
