Ingredients: While your turkey is cooking take 5 loaves of cheep white sandwich bread and toast in the toaster on light so it just gets lightly brown. I also lay some on a cookie sheet and put in the oven. Just want to dry them up. Stack them on the counter to cool off before cut them up in squares. I use crust and all but not the end pieces. Put cut up bread in a large roasting pan. Make sure they are cooled off good. I put the roaster in the cooled oven to keep till next morning when you will make the dressing.

Directions:THANKSGIVING DAY
Depending on what time you plan on eating get the Turkey out and put back in the roaster to heat up. Start at 350 until hot then turn down to 200 or so to keep it warm. It takes about an hour to get heated up.
Start making the dressing. Cut a large sweet or yellow onion (small diced) put in roaster with the bread. In the microwave heat the bowl of turkey juice just so it will pour in the dressing (not real hot). May need to take more juice out of the roaster that the turkey is in. Just make sure most of the turkey is covered with juice. May need to have 2-3 boxes chicken broth on hand in case you need more liquid for the dressing. (Have to save some juice for the gravy). Dressing will need to have enough juice so it is lose but not runny as it will get dry as it cooks. I use Tones ground sage in the small .25 oz. containers. (3-4) of them. Shake some sage on top of the bread along with some salt and pepper then stir. (Salt and pepper I never measure maybe 3 tablespoons). Don't put sage, salt & pepper in all on at one time. Do it a little at a time then stir. Taste as you go. On the last stir put the small turkey pieces in. cover with tin foil and put in the oven at 350 for an hour then uncover and bake for about a half hour until top get nice and brown. |
