½ c. soft Shortening
¼ c. Brown Sugar
1 Egg Yoke - save egg white
½ tsp. Vanilla Extract
1 c. Sifted Flour
¼ tsp. Salt
¾ c. Walnuts - finely chopped or crushed

Directions:
Directions:
In mixing bowl, thoroughly mix shortening, brown sugar, egg yolk and vanilla. Sift together flour and salt and add to shortening mixture.

Roll into 1" balls, dip in slightly beaten egg white. Roll in chopped/crushed walnuts. Place 1" apart on ungreased baking sheet and press thumb into center of each.

Bake at 375º F until set. Cool. Place jelly or tinted confectioners sugar into thumbprint.
