Indian Masala Chai Tea Recipe

Ingredients: 1 cup milk 2 black tea bags 1 inch cinnamon stick 3 whole cloves 7 green cardamom pods 1 ½ tsp. ginger, finely minced Maple syrup or sweetener of choice, to taste

Directions: |
Directions:Microwave milk for 60 seconds. Watch to make sure it doesn't boil over. Put all the spices and tea bags in a heavy bottomed pot. Add the warmed milk. Heat over medium heat for 5 minutes or until the milk turns a light brown color. Stir constantly to prevent scorching. Mixture may simmer but do not allow to boil. Flavor will be stronger the longer it simmers. Remove from heat and strain. Stir in sweetener of choice. Enjoy while hot! |

Notes: After enjoying this tea at many Indian restaurants and trying many so called "Spiced Chai" ready to drink mixes that didn't satisfy, we found and tweaked this recipe. It isn't exactly what we get at our favorite restaurant but it is close. We'll keep trying until we perfect it :-)
