"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Personal Notes:
My mom makes okra soup and rice every New Year’s Eve (and other times too) she makes it one day before New Year’s Eve. When she makes it, we’re all crowding in our tiny kitchen trying to get a taste, help or watch. I usually help, so I’m the first one to get a taste. While we’re waiting, we also set the table so we can eat right away. Once the okra soup and rice are ready we all dig in. We end up passing dishes around the table a lot. When we finish, we have to clean the table. It kind of takes a long time to clean the table. After we clean the table, we have to wash the dishes because we don’t have a dishwasher. I love this recipe because we get to spend time together as a family and we have fun.
