1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup dark molasses
1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp ground all spice
4 cups plain flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together; then refrigerate for 2 hours. Roll dough 1/4 inch thick on well floured surface. Cut into 3 inch circles. Sprinkle with sugar and place about 2 inches a part on ungreased cookie sheet pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Cool at least 2 minutes before removing from cookie sheet. Place on wire rack.
