Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup Karo syrup
1stick butter
1/2 c whipping cream - Half and half works too
1scant tsp baking soda
pinch salt

Directions:
Directions:
Use a heavy saucepan so it doesn't burn
And be prepared to stay right there till it's done
It goes from perfect to mess in seconds

Sugar and Karo in the pan, over medium low heat ( don't stir )
If possible have a cup with some water in it, and have a basting brush ready in case sugar crystals start to form around the sides. If they do, wet the brush , shake off the extra, and use the brush to wipe away the crystals. Otherwise, it starts a chain reaction and the sauce will be filled with little chunks that don't want to dissolve or taste burned

cook the sugar until it turns a golden color
Remove from heat!!!

stand as far back as you can from the pan and pour in the cream
IT WILL BUBBLE UP LIKE CRAZY so be careful and have a kitchen towel close by to protect yourself

Once the bubbles quiet down, stir in the butter and baking soda
Return to low heat and cook until it thickens and leaves a trail on the back of a spoon when you move a spatula ( or your finger if you are brave ) through it
