Ingredients:
Ingredients:
6 lb. beef brisket
2 tbsp. oil
2 large onions, sliced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 cup beef stock
2 bay leaves
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tbsp. brown sugar
3 tbsp. ketchup
½ cup raisins
Salt
Pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F.

Brown brisket in hot oil. Add onion and garlic, and brown slightly. Remove and put in roasting pan, sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Add stock and bay leaves.

Place in 350° oven for 1 hour, uncovered. After one hour, add lemon juice and brown sugar. If brisket appears dry, add water. Usually water is not needed.

Cover and roast 1 more hour, then add ketchup and raisins.

Cover and continue cooking 1½ hours, but check so you don’t overcook, especially if you’re going to reheat the next day.

Remove and cool thoroughly before slicing. Slice thin.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This was with Grandma Rita’s recipes and had a note that it was one of her favorites. I do remember her making brisket. I have no idea who is the Sylvia that title refers to.

At the bottom of the recipe were these notes:
"Can be reheated the next day on top of stove. Serve with mashed potatoes, hot noodles or rice. Good luck!"
