2 tbsp warm water
2 c flour
1 tsp fine sea salt
1/2 c warm milk
2 tbsp of shortening or oil
2 c of canola oil for frying

Directions:
Directions:
In a small bowl, stir the yeast into warm water and let stand until foamy (5-10 min). In large bowl, whisk together flour & salt and form a well in the middle. Mommy did it on a large wooden board. Add oil OR shortening to the well with the yeast mixture along w milk. Stir it all together until it forms a dough.

On a lightly floured surface with floured hands, knead dough until smooth and elastic (about 15 min). Transfer dough into a lightly oiled bowl, turning it to coat, cover with plastic wrap and place in a warm spot. Let the dough rise for 1 hr or until the dough doubles.

On lightly floured surface with rolling pin, roll out the dough into 1/4" thick rectangles.
W a pastry cutter, cut dough into 2" diamonds or squares & place the dough balls onto parchment paper. With a fork, mark the crescente and let rise another 15 min.

In a large sauce pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Working in batches, fry the crescente, turning occasionally until puffed and golden brown. About 2-3 min. Transfer with a slotted spoon onto paper towels.

All time favorite to everyone! We would eat it with cold cuts (proscuitto, mortadella, ham, turkey,) fresh mozzarella, and even nutella!
