1 bag of coleslaw mix (11.4 oz is what we get at the 99 cent store)
1/4 C mayo (we use Duke's)
4 TBSP apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp poppy seed
1/2 tsp sugar
dash of salt
dash of pepper
dash of bottled hot sauce (Texas Pete)

Mix all the wet and dry ingredients then add coleslaw mix and stir to coat.

Let rest in fridge for 4-8 hours stirring a couple of times.

You can make this 24 hours before serving. If using coleslaw mix that has purple cabbage, it might turn your slaw an interesting color--but the flavor is there. Brett found this on the internet and swears it's like the slaw he had at Howard Johnson's while traveling with his family in the 60s and 70s.

He also likes it on pulled pork sandwiches. I don't. I prefer it on the side.

I've made this many times and now skip the bowl and mix the wet ingredients and spices in a glass storage dish with a lid. Then add the cole slaw mix and shake to combine. Turn container upside down and shake periodically.

If you can only find 16 oz bag of cole slaw mix, double the wet ingredients.
