1/3 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
4 cups rhubarb, chopped
1⅓ cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 cup soft shortening
2/3 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg

Directions:
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350F.

2. Melt 1/3 cup butter in 9 square cake pan. Sprinkle melted butter with 1 cup Brown Sugar and 4 cups cut up rhubarb.

3. Sift together:
1 1/3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

4. Add:
1/3 cup soft shortening
2/3 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla

5. Beat 2 min, add 1 egg and beat 2 min.

6. Pour batter over fruit.

7. Bake about 40 min
