1 Tbsp cinnamon
Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
1/4 C water (or apple cider)
1/4 C sugar
1/4 C brown sugar

Directions:
Core apples and cut into eighths. Place in pot or slow cooker. Add cinnamon, water and both sugars. Mix together. Cook in slow cooker 4 1/2 hours on low OR cook on stove top for 2 hours on medium-low heat. Check and stir regularly. If apples are dry, then add more water. Once cooking is complete, put through a food mill and discard any skins. If mixture is not thick enough, then return to pot and cook over medium-high heat until rich color appears and texture is thicker (approx 20-40 minutes). Add lemon juice and mix. Fill sterile jars and process in water bath canner for 25 minutes.

This is my attempt to recreate Grandma's apple butter. It comes pretty close to what I remember.
