1 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground pork
1/2 c. rice (partly cooked)
1 egg, beaten
1 med. size cabbage
1 large can sauerkraut
1 small onion
seasoning salt
pepper
dash of celery seed
Tomato juice or V8
Water
3 strips bacon, cut in half

Directions:
Directions:
Remove core of cabbage. Parboil in salted water, removing leaves to cool as they cook. Trim thick ridge on back of leaves. Boil rice about 10 minutes in salted water.

Sauté onion in butter. Combine with meat, egg, rice, and seasonings. Put small amount of meat mixture on cabbage leaf. Tuck in one end, roll up. and then tuck in other end. Chop remaining cabbage.

Rinse and drain sauerkraut. Put a layer of chopped cabbage on bottom of large pot. Layer sauerkraut, then holupki on top of cabbage. Pour tomato juice or V8 diluted with water to cover holupki. Sprinkle with more pepper. Top with bacon strips. Cook slowly for about 2 hours until cabbage is tender.
