1/2 C hot water
1/2 C light corn syrup
2 C sugar
2 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine candies and water in 2 qt saucepan, and cook until dissolved. Add syrup and sugar, cook stirring constantly until sugar dissolves. If sugar crystals form on sides of pan scrape it off. Reduce heat, and cook without stirring until firm ball stage. Meanwhile beat egg whites until stiff, but not dry. Gradually pour 1/2 cooked syrup in a fine stream over egg whites, beating constantly with electric mixer on medium speed. Continue to cook remaining half of syrup to soft crack stage. Add a T at a time to mixer. Beat well until looses gloss, and drops from a spoon into soft peaks. Stir in vanilla. Pour into lightly buttered square pan, or drop drops onto wax paper. Cool, then cut.
Vanilla version: omit red hots, and do 1/3 C hot water, 1/3 C corn syrup, and 2 1/4 C sugar.
