1 cup oats (regular or quick cooked)
1 ½ cup boiling water
2 eggs
½ cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 ½ cups flour (plain)
1 tsp. soda
½ tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon

Topping:
6 T margarine
⅓ cup cream (or milk)
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
½ cup chopped pecans
½ cup coconut

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º

Cook oats and let stand while mixing other ingredients.

Combine white and brown sugar with wet ingredients and beat until light and fluffy; add oatmeal and mix well.

Sift together the dry ingredients and add to the egg and oatmeal mixture, mixing well.

Pour into a greased and floured 9x13 pan and bake 40 minutes.

Topping:
Boil first 4 ingredients for 3 minutes; take off stove and add nuts and coconut. Spread on warm cake and place under broiler until it bubbles.
