3½ cups sifted flour
½ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. nutmeg
4 tsp. baking powder
2 eggs - separated
1 cup sugar
¾ cup plus 2 T. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 T. butter or shortening

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour and baking powder together twice. Beat egg yolks and add sugar gradually, add creamed butter, salt, nutmeg and 2 tablespoons milk. Beat egg whites until stiff.
Gradually fold the egg whites, egg yolk mixture and flour mixture together. Ending with the dry ingredients. Add vanilla.

On a lightly floured surface pat dough to ⅓" thickness. Cut out doughnuts with doughnut cutter.

Deep fry in fat at a temperature of 360º. (A 1" cube of bread will brown in 1 minute)

Drain on an absorbent paper and sprinkle with sugar.
