"The most remarkable thing about my mother is that for thirty years she served the family nothing but leftovers. The original meal has never been found."--Calvin Trillin

Personal Notes:
This was a go-to for my mom in the 1960s when she entertained. She kept it warm in a copper fondue pot and let people serve themselves.

The small cracker sized rye bread thin slices are usually found near the deli counter in major grocery stores.

I haven't done it, but I but you could add a can of Rotel to the leftovers and make a great tortilla chip and dip.

I think they only had "original" Rotel back in the day so you could upgrade to another of their brands like "hot".

I've used Walmart's Great Value brand of processed cheese and I can't taste a difference.
