A pork shoulder (any size works!)
12 oz. can root beer
1 cup barbecue sauce
Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder

Directions:
Directions:
Sprinkle pork shoulder generously with salt, pepper and garlic powder and rub in.
Add the pork shoulder to the slow cooker.
Pour the barbecue sauce and root beer over the pork.
Cover and cook on low for 10 hours.
Remove the pork from the slow cooker onto a sheet tray or large plate. shred the meat with two forks and discard any fat.
Add the pork back into the slow cooker into the juices.

After moving to North Carolina, it took me a while to accept the southern version of barbecue. Up north, a barbecue is the thing you cook big hunks of meat ON. But, here in the south, as you well know, it's a plate full of vinegary, shredded meat, aka- pulled pork. Here's a recipe for said southern shredded swine that is not even a little vinegary, super easy to make, and incredibly delicious. Serve on buns, with slaw to make it kind of authentic.
