Syrup:
1 ½ c. sugar
2 c. water

Short cake:
4 medium apples, peeled and sliced
2 c. flour
2 tbsp. sugar
½ tsp. salt
3 tbsp. shortening
2 tsp. baking powder
¾ c. milk

Directions:
Directions:
Syrup: Mix sugar and water in baking pan on back of stove.

Sift dry ingredients together, cut in shortening, add milk. Roll out ½ in. thick. Spread with apples and roll into a long roll. Cut into pieces 2 inches thick. Place cut side down in hot boiling syrup. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Dot with butter. Bake in 375ºF oven until apples are done.
