1 c. butter
1 c. water
¼ c. cocoa
2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
⅛ t. salt
2 eggs
1 t. baking soda
½ c. sour cream
1 t. vanilla

Frosting:
½ c. butter
¼ c. cocoa
¼ c. + 2 T. milk
1 lb. confectioner's sugar
½ t. vanilla
½ c. chopped pecans (optional)

For cake:
1. Preheat oven to 350º.
2. Combine butter, water and cocoa in a saucepan over medium heat; heat until butter melts. Remove from heat. Add sugar, flour, salt, eggs, baking soda, sour cream and vanilla; mix well.
3. Pour into lightly greased jelly roll pan (15x10x1-inch pan).
4. Bake 20 minutes. Check for doneness with a toothpick.

While cake bakes, make frosting:
1. Combine butter, cocoa and milk in saucepan over medium heat. Bring to boil. Remove from heat.
2. Add confectioner's sugar and vanilla with electric mixer. Stir in pecans and pour over cake while cake is still hot. Spread to cover the entire cake.

This is a favorite cake at our house. I have made it for many a birthdays! It's also a great dessert to bring to potlucks.
