Grater, mixing bowl (rolling pin if making a pie or something with the pastry)

100g butter
2 Cups of plain flour
Water to mix

Directions:

1. Add 2 cups of flour to the mixing bowl

2. Grate the butter into the bowl

3. Use your finger tips to massage all the butter so it is completely mixed in with the flour.

4. Start to add water gradually whilst stirring with a spoon and the mixture will start to form a ball. (If you add too much water in it become too tacky but you can just add some more flour to even it out.

5. The pastry is now ready and can be used for a recipe or wrapped in clingfilm and stored in the fridge for unto 2 weeks.

There are different types of pastry available, this one is shortcrust pastry. You can buy it pre made and ready to roll out in the shops but can be expensive compared to the cost of having butter and flour which can be used to make multiple batches.

No weighing scales are needed, butter comes in a paper rectangle pack and the paper has markings on it showing every 50grams so you know where to cut it.
