1 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 T. hot water
¾ c. brown sugar
¾ c. white sugar
2 eggs
2½ c. flour
pinch of salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 package (12 oz.) of semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 c. nuts, chopped (optional)

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350º F.
2. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and the salt. Set aside.
3. Beat together the shortening, sugars, vanilla extract, and the water until smooth. Beat in the eggs just until combined.
4. Mix the flour mixture into the wet mixture.
5. Stir in chocolate chips.
6. Drop by teaspoons onto a cookie sheet and bake 15 minutes.
