cup shortening
cup white sugar
1 egg
cup molasses
1 T vinegar
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ginger
teaspoon cinnamon
teaspoon cloves
raisins


Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Blend in egg, molasses and vinegar. Combine dry ingredients and stir well into creamed mixture. Form into ball and chill for about three hours. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the 1/8 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes. Place on greased baking sheets about 1 inch apart. Press raisins into dough for eyes, mouth, and buttons. Bake at 375 F oven for 5 to 6 minutes. Let cool slightly and then remove from pan. Let cool completely. Decorate with icing if desired.
