1½ c. sugar
1½ c. water
¼ t. cinnamon
¼ t. nutmeg
4 drops red food coloring
6 medium apples, peeled & cored
2 c. flour
½ c. milk
1 t. salt
2 t. baking powder
⅔ c. shortening

Directions:
Directions:
Combine sugar, water, cinnamon, nutmeg, and red food coloring and bring to a boil.
Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the shortening, then add milk all at once. Roll six squares.
Place 1 apple in each square and sprinkle generously with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Dot with butter. Fold corners and pinch edges together. Place 1" apart in ungreased 11x2x7½ baking dish.
Pour boiling syrup over dumplings and sprinkle with sugar. Bake in 375º for 35 minutes until done. Serve warm with cream.
