½ C melted butter or margarine
6 large baking potatoes (about 4 lbs)
Salt and ground pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 425º

Brush the bottom and sides of a 1½ qt baking dish generously with some of the butter. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes.

Arrange some of the potato slices in a single layer over the bottom of the prepared dish, overlapping the slices slightly. Brush with the butter and sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes and butter until all the ingredients are used, seasoning each layer with salt and pepper.

Bake uncovered for 15 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 350º

Bake for 1¼ hours or until the potatoes are tender. Remove the cover.

Run a metal spatula around the outer edge of the dish and invert the potatoes onto a serving platter if desired.
