Create the base to the sauce and select your flavor.

Base
• 1/4 cup granulated Sugar
• 3 tablespoons cornstarch
• 1 cup water
• 1 teaspoon butter

For Spice Sauce
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• Dash of nutmeg
• Rum (optional)
Great on yellow or pound cake

For Lemon Sauce
• 1/3 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
• 1 teaspoon freshly grated lemon zest
Great with gingerbread or applesauce cake

For Chocolate Sauce
• 1/3 cup chocolate syrup with a hint of cinnamon

Great on yellow, chocolate or pound cake

For Wine Sauce
• 1/3 cup red wine (they used Grape Manischewitz Wine)
Great on yellow or pound cake

Make your favorite pound cake in a loaf or 9 X 11 pan. Set aside.

In small saucepan, whisk sugar and cornstarch together with water in small saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, whisking constantly.

Reduce heat and gently boil 1-2 minutes. Add pat of butter. Continue to boil until thickened and translucent. Remove from heat.

Stir in flavor ingredients. Keep sauce warm. Spoon over plated cake. Serve.

This recipe has been around for as long as I can remember. I would watch mom in the kitchen. You had to watch because it was not written. All of the Aunties loved this dessert recipe. Mom would make it with Chocolate sauce, Bootna would make it with Wine sauce, Helen would ask for Spice sauce and Thelma just loved the Lemon. I remember Bootna asking, 'What kind of sauce you want, the sisters would look at each other and say...Wine'..giggle giggle. I believe this recipe was made by my maternal grandmother. I pass it on to my children and nieces. 4 generations sharing- binding us together. Pass it on.
