1 cup butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
Pinch of salt
2 cups + 2 tbsp flour
1 cup chopped walnuts (usually omitted)
12 1/2 oz chocolate chips, about 2 cups or a 350 g package

“Chocolate chips were the first real luxury that surfaced after WWII. At first it felt almost sinful when rationing was lifted from sugar and butter, BUT THEN – to be able to buy something rich like chocolate chips to use in baking. It was an unbelievable delight. They caught on right away!!!” - My Goose is Cooked

1. In a large bowl, with an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugars.
2. Beat in the vanilla and eggs, then the baking soda and flour.
3. Stir in nuts and chocolate chips. Mix thoroughly.
4. Drop dough by cookie scoop on to well-buttered or parchment lined cookie sheets.
5. Bake at 350F for 12-15 minutes. These cookies freeze well.
