Meringue Crust:
3 egg whites
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons white vinegar


Custard Filling:
3 egg yolks, beaten
1/2 cup sugar, sifted
1 heaping Tablespoon flour, sifted
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Pinch of salt

Topping:
1 cup strawberries, cut into pieces Plus whole strawberries for garnish
1 8 oz Cool Whip

Meringue Crust:

Preheat oven to 300º. Beat egg whites until stiff, gradually add sugar, then vinegar. Bake in a greased, 9 inch over-proof pie dish for 1-1/2 hours. Place the pie dish on the second rake of oven to bake. When done, cool completely.

Custard Filling:

Combine all ingredients in the top of a double boiler, stirring constantly until mixture thickens. Pour custard into meringue crust and set aside.

Topping:

Cover the custard filling with the strawberry pieces, then cover with Cool Whip. Garnish with whole strawberries.
