Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cup butter (Grandma's recipe says "oleo" but I always use butter)
1 cup creamy peanut butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp real vanilla

2-1/2 cups flour
1-1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup granulated sugar in a sauce dish (small bowl)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Blend together the butter, peanut butter, sugar, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla until light and fluffy. In a separate bowl sift together the flour, baking soda and salt. (I usually just whisk them together instead of getting out my sifter.) Add flour mixture to peanut butter mixture. Beat until well combined. Shape dough into 1" balls. Rolls balls in granulated sugar until completely coated. Place on ungreased cookie sheet (or one lined with parchment paper) 2" apart. Press down gently with a fork in a crisscross pattern, just a little, not too flat. Bake 8-10 minutes until edges are just beginning to turn a little brown. Do not overbake! Cook on racks. Store tightly covered.

** Rolling them in the granulated sugar keeps the moisture in and results in a really good, chewy cookie.

Personal Notes:
I make these at Christmas time and turn them into reindeer. Just buy a bag of Christmas color M&Ms and some small pretzel twists. Press two pretzel twists firmly into the top of each cookie for antlers, making sure some dough pokes through the hole in the pretzel, then use 2 green M&Ms for eyes and one red M&M for nose at the bottom. Bake as directed.
