3 cloves garlic, minced
1 large onion, diced
1 lb Italian sausage
1 lb ground beef
1 can (28oz) whole tomatoes with juice
2 cans (14.5 oz) tomato sauce or marinara sauce
2 tsp Italian seasoning
½ tsp red pepper flakes
salt and pepper
16oz ziti
1 tub (15oz) whole milk ricotta cheese
1½ lb mozzarella cheese, grated
1 egg

Directions:
Directions:
Heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and saute until softened. Add Italian sausage and ground beef, cook until browned and drain off fat.

Add tomato juice, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes/ Stir and simmer for 25 - 30 minutes.
Remove 3-4 cups of sauce to a different bowl to cool down

Preheat oven to 375º

In a separate bowl, mix together ricotta cheese, 2 cups of the grated mozzarella, parmesan, egg, salt, and pepper. Stir together just a couple of times (do not mix completely)

Drain pasta, pour into bowl with cheese mixture and toss to slightly combine. Add cooled meat sauce and toss to combine.

Add half of the coated pasta to large casserole dish, spoon half remaining sauce over top, then top with half the remaining mozzarella cheese. Repeat with another layer of coated pasta, sauce and mozzarella.

Bake 20min or until bubbling
Sprinkle with parsley before serving
