2 c butter
3 c powdered sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla or almond extract

5 c flour
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cream of tartar
½ tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and extract mix well.

Sift flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Add and mix into butter/sugar.

Divide dough into three balls and chill 1 hour in refrigerator.

Three Variations; Roll dough into 1 " balls

Snickerdoodles-roll in cinnamon sugar, place on baking sheet and flatten.

Thumbprints-flatten on baking sheet, and with wooden spoon handle make indent in each cookie. Add favorite jelly to impression once removed from oven.

Snowballs-Add chopped walnuts to dough before refrigerating. Roll prepared balls in powdered sugar. And flatten on baking sheet. Sprinkle with additional powdered sugar on cooling racks once removed from oven.
