1 1/2 cup plain flour
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 Tbs. cocoa
1/3 cup of melted shortening
1 Tbs. vinegar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup cold water

Directions:
Directions:
Sift dry ingredients into 9 x 9 inch pan.
Mix well.
Make 3 holes; pour oil, vinegar, and vanilla in separate holes.
Pour water over all.
Mix well with fork.
Do not beat.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Leave in pan. Frost while still warm.
Wacky Cake Topping
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of milk Combine all ingredients, except vanilla
1/4 stick of butter Cook on medium heat until thick
1 1/2 Tbs. flour Add vanilla
1/2 cup coconut, optional Mix well
1/2 cup of chopped nuts, optional Spread over warm cake
1/2 tsp. vanilla

This recipe came from my mother (Viola Carr). It was the first cake
I ever made. I was probably about eight, standing on a chair, following
her instructions, thinking this was a great idea because we could mix it in
the same pan we baked it in. Oh, by the way, it tastes pretty good too.
