1/2 C shortening
3/4 C sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 C flour
3/4 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
2/3 C milk
1/3 C cocoa powder
1/3 C walnuts or chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º
Cream together the shortening, sugar and eggs til light and fluffy. Sift together flour, salt and baking powder. Add to creamed mixture alternately with the milk, beating well after each addition. Spoon 1/3 of batter into well greased 6 1/2 C ring mold or 9 x 9 x 2 " pan. Mix cocoa powder and nuts or chocolate chips. Sprinkle half over the batter in the pan. Repeat layers ending with batter.
Bake 35 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes, turn out of mould and serve
