1¼ cups sugar
1 cup (1 stick) Butter Flavor Crisco Shortening
2 eggs
¼ cup regular maple pancake syrup
1 Tbsp vanilla
3 cups all purpose flour (plus 4 tablespoons divided)
¾ tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt

Icing
6 Tbsp softened butter
1½ cup sifted powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
3 Tbsp milk

1. Heat oven to 375º. Place cooling racks on countertop for cooling cookies.

2. Combine sugar and crisco in large bowl. Beat at medium speed until well blended. Add eggs, syrup and vanilla. Beat until blended and fluffy.

3. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt Add gradually to creamed mixture at low speed. Mix until well blended. Divide dough into 4 quarters and wrap each quarter of dough with plastic wrap. Refrigerate at least 1 hour even overnight.

4. Spread 1 Tbsp of flour on large sheet of waxed paper. Place one quarter of dough on floured paper. Roll dough into ¼ in thickness. Use cooking cutter cut out with floured cutter. Transfer to un-greased baking sheet with large pancake turner. Place 2 inches apart. Sprinkle with granulated sugar or colored sugar crystals, or leave plain to frost when cooled.

5. Bake 375º for 5-9 minutes, depending on the size of cookies. Do not over bake. Cool 2 minutes on baking sheet. Remove cookies to cooling rack to cool completely then frost is desired.

Makes about 3-4 Dozen Cookies

Icing

In mixing bowl, cream all ingredients. If necessary beat in additional milk to make a frosting of spreading consistency.
