1 lb. beef chuck or stewing beef cut into small cubes 1' to 2'
1/2 c. California burgundy, claret or other dry red wine
1 can (10 oz) undiluted condensed consommé
3/4 tsp. salt, 1/8 tsp pepper
1 large onion sliced
1 bay leaf
1/4 c. fine dry bread crumbs
1/4 c. sifted all purpose flour

Directions:
Directions:
Combine beef, wine, consomme, salt, pepper and sliced onion in a casserole. Mix flour and bread crumbs. Stir into casserole mixture. Cover If casserole lid doesn't fit well, first seal casserole with a piece of aluminum foil to keep in steam and juices, then place lid on top. Bake in a very slow oven, no more than 300º for 3 to 4 hours, until beef is tender. this is a very easy recipe, as the beef needn't be browned first. You can experiment and add your own favorite herbs or seasonings
