1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
cup cocoa
1 tsp. soda
tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. salt
⅔ cup shortening
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Add shortening and cup buttermilk. Beat on medium speed for about two minutes on medium speed. Add remaining buttermilk, vanilla and eggs. Beat two more minutes. Pour in two prepared cake pans. Makes 2 layers. Bake at 350 for about 25 minutes. Cool and ice.
