Sauce

3/4 cup ketchup
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon BBQ sauce
1/4 cup honey
1 teaspoon cider vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
dash black pepper


Hot dogs and toppings

large Polish hot dogs (e.g., from Costco)
large buns
butter
white onions, diced
sauerkraut
pickles (e.g., large dill spears)
banana peppers

Directions:
1. To make sauce, combine all sauce ingredients in a sauce pan, bring to a simmer, and then turn off and let cool. (Store in fridge long term.)

2. Preheat grill. While heating, prepare hotdogs by using a very sharp knife to cut a large zig-zag down one long side of a hot dog. (It will kind of look like you cut a bunch of W's into one long side of the hotdog from end to end.) Clean and oil the grill and set it to medium heat and cook the hotdogs with the lid down, rotating occasionally, until they are as dark as you'd like them.

3. While hotdogs are cooking, butter the inside of the buns and grill briefly until toasted.

4. Serve hotdogs with your choice of toppings and a generous drizzle of the sauce. The sauce will seep into the cuts you made in the hotdogs and be magically delicious.
