Notes: The story behind the recipe:
It is probably more accurate to say these cookies are of Frerick origin because it is a recipe Grandma & Auntie Louise both have. All the aunts & uncles have put their own special spin on the recipe, & nobodys cookies are identical. Yet, these cookies are well known amongst the Hinnenkamp aunts & uncles’ friends, neighbors, & coworkers. Our aunts and uncles are competitive, the competition about whose cookies are the best still stands. Uncle Mike, quickly learning diplomacy from Grandpa, informs Auntie Linda and Uncle Loren that he is always willing to judge, but no winner is ever declared. Uncle Loren has never given out his top-secret variation to the cookie recipe in all the years he has had requests from coworkers and friends throughout the St. Joe area. He gave me permission to reveal his secret to you; however, this is classified information. So, guard it closely: Uncle Loren uses 1 bag of Nestle Tollhouse milk chocolate chips Grandpa is the only one who believes you only put 1 c. chocolate chips in. Although, he is “always right,” his children like chocolate too much to only put in 1 cup. Always use butter-flavored Crisco in the cookies Add an extra splash of vanilla Don’t add the salt, the extra sodium is not needed Bake the cookies on parchment paper Bake the cookies at 335° for 6.5 minutes using speed bake or about 8-9 minutes without If possible, use the speed bake, you will see a difference Pull out of oven just before they are done because they will finish baking on the counter!
