¼ cup butter, softened
¼ cup shortening
¼ cup brown sugar
1 egg yolk
½ tsp vanilla
¼ tsp salt
¾ cup finely chopped nuts
jelly or jam of choice

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, sugar, shortening, egg yolk and vanilla. Work in flour and salt until dough holds together.

Create 1” balls. Dip each ball into beaten egg white and roll in crushed nuts. Place on un-greased cookie sheet. Press thumb deeply into each cookie.

Bake at 350° for 10 minutes and remove immediately from sheet. Once cool, fill thumbprint with jelly or jam.
