"Best in the West" BBQ Bean Bake Recipe

Ingredients: 1 lb. ground beef 1 lb. thick, smoked bacon 1 large white onion, diced ½ cup ketchup ½ cup BBQ sauce (I use Bullseye) 4 tablespoons mustard 4 tablespoons molasses 1 teaspoon chili powder ¼ teaspoon pepper 2 (16-ounce each) cans red kidney beans, well drained 2 (16-ounce each) cans pork and beans, (skim fat from top) and drain light liquid from top of each can 2 (16-ounce each) cans butter beans, (large, white, lima bean) well drained

Directions:Cook bacon in large skillet. Drain on paper towel and put aside. Drain the grease from the hot skillet but do not clean the pan. Cook ground beef and onion in same skillet, scraping bits of bacon from the bottom of the pan. Drain fat from ground beef. In a mixing bowl, mix ketchup, BBQ sauce, mustard, molasses, chili powder and pepper to make the sauce. Mix the sauce with the ground beef/onion mixture and all of the well-drained beans. Once it is completely combined, pour into a sprayed casserole dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. |

Notes: Sheila Brown, our neighbor on Bonnie Oak Way, served this dish when we were celebrating the 4th of July. It was so good that I asked for the recipe immediately. Years later, Wayne served it to "The Bunco Boys" at a poker night dinner and it became one of their favorites.
