Ingredients: 2 eggs 2 sticks margarine, soft 2 1/2 c. flour 1 c. raisins 2 c. applesauce (2 1/2 c. for a more moist cake) 1 c. nuts (black walnuts are preferred - Uncle Allen confirmed) 2 c. white sugar 2 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. cinnamon 3 tsp. cloves 3 tsp. allspice 2 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. salt

Directions:Preheat oven to 350º.
Mix dry ingredients except raisins and nuts in one bowl.
In a separate bowl, mix margarine with sugar, and beat for one minute. Add eggs and beat 2 minutes. Add applesauce and blend.
Slowly combine both bowls of ingredients and mix thoroughly, then add raisins and nuts. Pour into a well-greased and floured tube pan.
Bake for approximately 60 minutes. Check with a toothpick. If necessary, bake an additional 10 minutes. |

Notes: "Tom and Suzie was visiting with Grandma shortly after we were married when Susie asked her for the recipe. She shared with her that she would make this cake "for my boys who were fighting in the war." She said that it shipped well and with all those spices, it did not spoil. I'm sure a lot of love and prayers went into making the cakes. She was so thankful that her boys got home safely."
