Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 large slice Jewish Rye Bread, cut in half, from a round loaf with caraway seeds
1 thin, cold lean Ground Beef Patty
Salt and Pepper
1 thin slice of Onion, cut from a large Onion

Directions:
Directions:
Shape the beef patty to fit the 1/2 slice of bread. Sprinkle with pepper and salt. Mince the onion and sprinkle over the meat, pressing it into the mixture. Top with the other 1/2 slice of bread. If desired, the onion slice could be placed on top of the patty, instead of mincing it.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This was my favorite summertime snack as a child. I ate it instead of a lettuce leaf, spread with cold butter, folded so that the butter was inside. This is what I had most days as a snack. Since I was a skinny kid, I was encouraged to have as many fattening snacks as I wished. Whoever helped Mother form the ground beef into patties when she returned from shopping was rewarded with a Cannibal Sandwich. My husband says it was also popular in his neighborhood which was German, both Christian and Jewish.
