3 c sugar
1 c butter
2 c sweet cream
3 c dark Karo syrup
c shortening
1 t baking ammonia (get at drug store)
t allspice
t cloves
t ginger
t nutmeg
t cinnamon
1 T anise seed
12 - 15 c unsifted flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and butter. Add cream, syrup and shortening. Add other ingredients in order given. Bake 12 minutes at 350 degrees.

These take four to five hours to do. I find it easier to take some dough and roll it into a rope about inch thick and then slice off your pieces about one-quarter inch thick.
