½ cup butter. 1 cup brown sugar. 2-3 tbsp maple syrup...heat at medium till butter melted...stir till smooth...pour into 9 by 13 inch baking pan
6-8 slices challah or French bread 1 inch thick...arrange bread to fit..should cover entire surface.

5 large eggs. 1½ cups 10%cream. 1 tbsp orange liqueur (optional). 1 tsp vanilla extract. ¼ tsp salt
Whisk and pour over bread. Cover and chill at least 8 hours.

To bake, bring to room temp...sprinkle with almonds and bake uncovered at 350F until puffed and edges are lightly browned...about 35 to 40 minutes. All egg mixture should be absorbed.
Serve immediately
