1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 beaten eggs
1 c. thick, unsweetened applesauce
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 c. chopped seedless raisins
1/2 c. Chopped nut meats

Directions:
Directions:
Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and beat well. Add applesauce, then sifted dry ingredients. Beat smooth and fold in raisins and nuts. Bake in waxed-paper lined 8 inch square pan in moderate oven (350ºf) 45-60 min. Serve plain or frosted. This cake will remain moist several days in closely covered container. To bake 9" tube cake, double above recipe and bake nearly 1 hour 30 min
